DAVAO REGIONAL HOSPITAL HISTORY

 
 

HISTORY

ON JUNE 21, 1969, REPUBLIC ACT 5702 UNDER THE AUTHORSHIP OF SENATOR ALEJANDRO D. ALMENDRAS AND CONGRESSMAN LORENZO P. SARMIENTO, WAS ENACTED IN CONGRESS ESTABLISHING A NATIONAL HOSPITAL IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF TAGUM IN DAVAO DEL NORTE.

THE HOSPITAL, KNOWN AS DAVAO DEL NORTE NATIONAL HOSPITAL, WAS ORGANIZED ON JUNE 1972 WITH AN AUTHORIZED BED CAPACITY OF FIFTY(50) BEDS. WHILE THE HOSPITAL WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT APOKON, IN TAGUM, THE HOSPITAL CORE PERSONNEL WAS TEMPORARILY HOUSED IN A RENTED OFFICE AT TORIBIO BUILDING ALONG THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY.

UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF ITS FIRST CHIEF OF HOSPITAL, DR. CIPRIANO C. DE VERA, THE HOSPITAL INITIALLY OFFERED OUT PATIENT CONSULTATIONS AND SERVICES FOR THE TIME BEING.

 HOSPITAL PERSONNEL TRANSFERRED TO TAGUM ON NOVEMBER 1973. THE HOSPITAL BUILDING WAS INAUGURATED AND OPENED TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC ON JANUARY 26, 1974. THE FOLLOWING YEAR, ITS BED CAPACITY WAS INCREASED TO ONE HUNDRED.

ON APRIL 1980, THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH (MOH) ISSUED ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER NO.82 RECLASSIFYING THE HOSPITAL FROM A PROVINCIAL INTO A REGIONAL LEVEL, THE HOSPITAL WAS RENAMED AS DAVAO REGIONAL HOSPITAL (DRH).

IN 1987, DRH WAS AUTHORIZED TO INCREASED ITS BED CAPACITY TO ONE HUNDRED FIFTY (150); IN 2001 TO 200.

DAVAO REGIONAL HOSPITAL IS LOCATED IN APOKON, TAGUM CITY WHICH IS A COMPONENT CITY OF DAVAO PROVINCE.
